An Internet address uniquely identifies a node on the Internet. Internet address may also refer to the name or IP of a Web site (URL). P address is short for Internet Protocol (IP) address. An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. Tow Kind of IP Address 1. IPv4 2. IPv6 The Formate Of IPv4 The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address. Class Of IPv4 The Internet community has defined IP address classes: A, B, C, D, and E. Class A : 1 to 126 decimal Class B : 128 to 191 decimal Class C : 192 to 223 decimal Class D : 224 to 239 decimal Class E : 240 to 254 decimal To accommodate varying network sizes, each address class handles network addressing for a network of a unique size. The class defines the possible number of networks and the number of hosts for each network. Each class also defines which bits of the IP address are used for the network identifier and which bits are used for the host identifier.
